Water Resources Engineering & Management (WRE&M) Department

The Department of Water Resources Engineering & Management is the youngest department to be formed within the NUST Institute of Civil Engineering (NICE). Within a very short span of time, the Department has established its strong reputation by developing international links with United Nations Educational Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO), International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Chinese National Committee on Irrigation & Drainage (CNCID) and University of Tokyo. Also it has active links with national organizations as well such as PMD, NDMA, SUPARCO, WAPDA, FFC, IRSA, PCRWR, CEWRE, etc. The Department offers both MS and PhD Degree Programs to impart education and training toward an understanding of the complexity of water use and water resources engineering & management problems by offering a balanced curriculum, covering both the engineering and management aspects of water resource development. Our aim is to train students to acquire knowledge and hands-on practice in tools and techniques to come up with viable and sustainable solutions within the framework of the integrated water resources management at the river basin scale. The curriculum is regularly revised to impart the latest knowledge to the students. We have no doubt that our trained water resources engineers, planners & managers will be able to face the current challenges of securing water for domestic, industrial and agricultural use; protect the vital ecosystem; and effectively deal with spatial & temporal variability and uncertainty of water.

Head of Department Message

Dr. Sajjad Haider

Welcome to the Department of Water Resources Engineering & Management (WRE&M) at the NUST Institute of Civil Engineering (NICE), National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) . The Department of Water Resources Engineering & Management (WRE&M) was established in 2010. Water Resources Engineering & Management Program has been running since then to primarily meet the water industry needs of the country. The Department is designed and developed along modern lines which are tailored to impart and strengthen the students’ knowledge in Water Resources Engineering & Management and its related specialties. Water Resources Engineering & Management Degree Program provides flexibility, broad subject coverage, high quality delivery and excellent job prospects on graduation. The course allows development of important technical aspects associated with Water Resources Engineering& Management. It provides the students with comprehensive and diverse understanding of Water Resources Engineering & Management which will allow the students to develop their careers. It is not only successful in providing essential technical aspects in the subject, but also allows a sound practical application of the skills learnt. The course focuses on strengthening students’ knowledge in water resources engineering& management, exposing them to issues related to engineering hydrology, hydraulics engineering, river engineering, sediment transport, water resources economics, planning & management.
