NUST Bazm-e-Pakistan Event “Allama Iqbal and the New Geopolitics of a Changing World”

Teachings of Allama Muhammad Iqbal hold as much relevance and inspiration for us today as ever, especially for the students. Under the ‘Oxford Pakistan Program,’ University of Oxford U.K organized Iqbal series lecture on the topic “The Geopolitics of a Changing World” by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, who is a world-renowned economics professor and global leader in sustainable development.

The session was hosted by the council members of Nust Bazm e Pakistan and was open for all students of NUST (National University of Sciences and Technology) H-12 campus and started with a Welcome Note to all the students and faculty. In his lecture, Professor Jeffery Sachs highlighted Allama Iqbal’s intellectual thoughts and his vision for a world free of exploitation. He further added that Iqbal was a man of peace who advocated cooperation and dialogue between civilizations. Professor Sachs quoted Iqbal from his radio speech of 1938 in which he had argued that the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity cannot be realized unless we consider the whole world as one “family of God”. He highlighted the relevance of this message in 1938, years before the World War, and in the contemporary global affairs that require new geopolitics of peace and cooperation. The lecture was followed by a Quiz session on Allama M. Iqbal and gift hampers were given for right answers. The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks to our esteemed guests.
