Industrial visit to Under construction project at H-13 on 09 May 2024 for UG CE-2021 Batch
On 09 May 2024, students from UG Batch 2021 visited under construction commercial buildings of Horizon Height at-H13, Islamabad. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize the students with the construction process of the most commonly used methods for buildings, such site planning, excavation, concreting, material testing, site safety, machinery, etc. The students were given a tour of the two construction sites under construction commercial buildings. The project engineer gives detail briefing regarding the project cost, time, design, drawing, soil investigation, live and dead load, and work plan. He explains the challenges and solutions to tackle those challenges. He also explains the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge on sites. Highlighted the importance of communication and public dealing in construction projects. During the visit, the students were provided with detailed descriptions of each stage of the construction process by visited faculty members. Each faculty member explains various topic such as excavations, material testing, scheduling, design of the structure based on their specialized. At Horizon Height building, construction works were running on full capacity, students were not allowed to top floor due to safety concern. However, at adjacent under construction mega commercial project, they were allowed to enter ground and excavation area to see the construction activities. Project engineer and faculty explain in detail the challenges encounter during the excavation process such as rainwater extraction from project. Scheduling of activities especially heavy machinery. They were also briefed regarding steel bending, steel types and grades, nature rocks and soil, etc. The students learned how the construction activities are monitored on the construction sites. They also shown interest in piling, excavation safety, and design of the building structure. The visit concluded on time and the students gained valuable knowledge regarding the building construction practices used in the industry in Pakistan.
